Grants to USA and Latin America nonprofits for efforts to create policy changes that will improve the lives of Latin Americans. Applicants must submit an LOI prior to submitting a full application. The funding source has identified three program areas in which innovative solutions and expert focused research are combined to make a significant positive impact.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

To be considered for a Tinker Institutional Grant, a request must be submitted by an organization with 501(c)(3) charitable status or its equivalent, i.e., if the organization is based outside the United States.

The project/program for which funding is sought must be geographically focused on Latin America.

The Foundation will not consider requests for:
- Annual fund-raising appeals;
- Support for building construction or major equipment purchases;
- Individual research;
- Funding of health or medical issues;
- Production costs for film, television and radio projects;
- Arts and humanities projects including art museum collections and exhibits; or
- Endowments.

Please Note:
- If your organization has an open grant, the Foundation is unlikely to consider a new funding request until the funded project has been completed and the final reports have been received and approved.
- The Foundation does not provide funding for private school tuition or scholarships, child sponsorships, capital improvements, or large-scale equipment purchases.
- The Foundation generally does not fund litigation efforts.

Pre-Application Information:

The Foundation recognizes the intensity of effort required to prepare a complete grant request and, therefore, requires potential applicants to submit a letter of inquiry prior to developing a full proposal.

Annual Deadlines for Receipt of Full Proposals:
- March 15 with final decisions made by the Board of Directors in June.
- September 15 with final decisions made by the Board of Directors in December.

The Foundation will accept letters of inquiry for the September 2019 deadline in the online portal starting July 15, 2019, and concluding August 22, 2019.

Organizations that proceed past the letter of inquiry process must provide full proposals to the Foundation by the indicated deadline dates.

2019 June Institutional Grant Application Deadline:
- Letter of Inquiry Open Date: Monday, January 7, 2019
- Letter of Inquiry Close Date: Friday, February 22, 2019
- Full Proposal Submission Date (by invitation only): Friday, March 15, 2019
- Final Decisions: June 2019

2019 December Institutional Grant Applications Deadline:
- Letter of Inquiry Open Date: Monday, July 15, 2019
- Letter of Inquiry Close Date: Thursday, August 22, 2019 (11:59 pm EST)
- Full Proposal Submission Date (by invitation only): Sunday, September 15, 2019 (11:59 pm EST)
- Final Decisions: December 2019

The sequence of the application process in the online portal is as follows:

- Letter of Inquiry (to determine if you should proceed to a full proposal)
- Full Proposal (only if the proposed project falls within our areas of interest)
