RESCUE RESPONSE COMPRISES APPROXIMATELY 10% OF OUR DUTIES. EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES RESPONSE COMPRISES APPROXIMATELY 60% OF OUR DUTIES. MANY MEMBERS OF OUR DEPARTMENT ARE CERFIFIED IN BASIC EMERGENCY CARE THROUGH PARAMEDIC LEVEL CARE TO ASSIST OUR COMMUNITY. OUR REMAINING ACTIVITIES INCLUDE OUR MONTHLY TRAINING FOR OUR FIREFIGHTERS AND OUR ANNUAL OPEN HOUSE, WHERE WE CONDUCT FIRE SAFETY TRAINING TO THE PUBLIC. OUR MEMBERS ARE ALL VOLUNTEERS AND DO NOT RECEIVE ANY MONETARY OR OTHER TYPE OF BENEFIT FROM THE BRIDGETOWN VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPT. OUR MEMBERS ARE ON CALL 24 HOURS A DAY, 7 DAYS A WEEK, 365 DAYS A YEAR.

Southwest Marion Volunteer Fire Department (SWMVFD) fire protection, motor vehicle accident response and basic medical response to the southwest portion of Marion County. This is a rural area covering about 100 square miles. the area has about 5000 people living in about 2000 homes. US 98 and Mississippi 35 run through the ares. All our responders are volunteers and receive any payment for their time or travel costs.
