Description:

Request a Grant Writer

In-kind grants of volunteer services to Mississippi organizations to enhance the quality of life for local youth and children in eligible locations. Funding is intended to support organizations working to address community needs within the focus areas of children’s health, early literacy, and social development. Eligible organizations serve the residents of the Jackson metro area.

The Junior League of Jackson endorses a Community Impact Model for selecting and evaluating its community projects. This model requires the League to identify a small number of critical community needs and place its volunteers and project funds exclusively or primarily in those areas to maximize the League's effectiveness in improving the community.

Focus Areas:

  • Early Literacy: Early Literacy volunteers work primarily with elementary school students, exposing them to language and print resources to help students read at grade level. JLJ also provides support to teachers, which ranges from tutoring students to awarding grants for classroom needs. For additional information, see: https://www.jljackson.org/early-literacy/
  • Children's Health: The Children’s Health impact area uses strategies that provide access to nutritional foods and increase knowledge on the benefits of healthy eating and being physically active. Efforts in this area include a pantry program, education series, and activities that promote movement and physical fitness. For additional information, see: https://www.jljackson.org/childrens-health/
  • Social Development: The Social Development impact area employs strategies designed to improve problem-solving skills, coping skills, and to build self-esteem in children and youth. Projects provide access to information that will support positive life choices and help promote team building and socialization. For additional information, see: https://www.jljackson.org/social-development/
